Return to Home Page

For users who have been experiencing weird operation while playing our videos (any videos on kmaxmedia.com) On Windows Media Player, I’ve been hunting down this bug since it irritated me that I used the same method as other sites in running embedded Windows Media.

Basically, what happened was when a video page loaded, in the Windows Media Player control, the control would be stuck on “Connecting…” or “Connecting to media…” and if you hit stop sometimes, your browser would freeze for a while then unfreeze.

I think it had to do with something when we set what we call the “mime-type” to the correct format, it stalled and didn’t play (This happened on my XP Partition, but not on my Server 2K3 Partition.) So, after hunting around I set our video engine to send out the playlists as “text/html” and it seemd to solved it. Technically, this is incorrect since the format is supposed to be asx (or in this case video/x-ms-asf). But, it seemed to do the trick. It looks like a bug in Windows (even Service Pack 2) or Windows Media. Has anyone else experienced this bug?

On my Windows Server 2K3 partition, it worked fine. I did get a couple e-mails from users who seemed to have problems viewing videos (though, these were one line e-mails, I NEED MORE DETAILS PEOPLE!!!) I haven’t tried this bug fix yet in Server 2K3, so for now, let me know if you’re having problems viewing our videos as of now. I’ll continue testing in the meantime.

Please type your comments below and let me know if things are better or worse. Thanks.

News Feeds Are Going….

Production News, February 7th, 2005, 9:29 pm

While I still wait for my web service provider to figure out connection problems with the news feeds, I’ve decided to manually update the syndicated feeds until then. For now, you’ll get news updates around once or twice a day. I run a web mirror of all of our software on a computer, so it’s no problem updating the feeds (takes seconds).

As for me, I’m still working out some deals and plans.. stay tuned.

New Layout and such…

Production News, Site Updates, February 2nd, 2005, 9:57 am

So, we’re now officialy known as “on-the-fringe entertainment”. Feel the new slogan, and please don’t fall off the fringe. I’ll write more about the goal in 2005. Yes, the plan for this year.

Major revision today folks as you can see in the major site layout change. Let’s start off what’s going on:

All event coverages and specials have been merged into a new section: News. In addition, we’re planning to start up, suprise, suprise, a news section which we will bring to you breaking on-the-fringe stories from young artists and news of interest abroad. It’ll be slow at first since we’re doing a lot of planning for the next production season but we hope this will keep everyone up to date and entertained by our coverages er– news coverage of stuff not really interesting by the mass audience but to a narrow audience which is what we aim at doing.

Software Update (2.10.0).

- All updates in 2.9.99b1 plus:
- Major Layout Change and easing the code burden a bit in our pages.
- Moved coverage and specials into News.

So the next thing to do is to get rid of redundant code. Fun.. gonna have to do that with a lot of pages.

Browsers we will now test with our pages:

Internet Explorer 6
Mozilla Firefox 1.0
Netscape 7.2
Screen Resolution: 1024 x 768.

The Video Players should still work will all of these browsers as long as you have Windows Media 9 or higher installed on your computer.

The Anime News Network and About.com news feeds seems to be on the fritz again not because of the feeds themselves but because of a weird ISP problem that doesn’t allow my pages to connect to the feeds. It’s out of my hands. Hopefully that will be fixed soon.

Any comments about the new look?

Today’s Site Update

Production News, Site Updates, January 28th, 2005, 9:44 am

I’ve decided to hastily add and change around the site now instead of later including a brand spanking new blog. But, the next season of updates isn’t quite ready to begin yet. But I hope these additions will be of interest to you guys. I’ve been hacking away at some software stuff and these revised parts of the site have been done for a while now so what’s the use in waiting any further?

By the way, the site updates page will now be shown here instead of the what’s new page. If you still want to see all of the archives and stuff, Click here for the update archive

Stuff Changed today (software version 2.9.99b1):

K-Max’s Media Blog is the brand new blog bringing you K-Max’s thoughts and also serves as the new site update section.

The Links Section now has a new look. The Links Directory You can now look up your favorite links and of course, I encourage you to submit artist, art and fringe entertainment sites to us.

The Gallery had a software update.

The forum was removed due to many issues including lack of interest. For now, you can still post your comments in this blog on any entries.

The video player engine also had a software update which should increase its stability. Make sure you’re using Windows Media Player 9 or higher. We’re about to reduce support on software from years ago. (We’ll announce which browsers were using to test the site with and which ones we support when the software update is finished.)

What’s Coming soon (2.10.0)

News Section: All of our coverages and specials will be merged into a brand new news section all with K-Max Media bringing you news on sports, small entertainment and more along with syndicated news feeds.

RSS: You will be soon able to keep up to date by using your news reader and browser by using our RSS news feeds.

Plus Season 5 which will begin in less than a month. (hopefully)

Let me know what you think of some of the new stuff and I’ll see you next time.
